SCSC at the International Cadet UK National Championship 2026 at Plas Heli

After the excitement of Lake Garda, the SCSC cadets travelled to Plas Heli, Pwllheli for the UK National Championships. SCSC had ten boats and twenty four sailors participated (Evie and Rory Kornicka, Ollie Star and Amy Jenkins all crewed for other boats when needed and performed brilliantly).
The series began with two days of frustratingly light winds and only two completed races. The great news was that SCSCs Oscar Ward and Alex Starr in Joe DiMaggio won the first race convincingly with a superb third in the second to lead the leader board at the end of day 2. Kyla Brezan and Emily Richardson were also well placed with a fantastic fifth and eighth. Bruce Ward and Alex Nailer in Master Mariner stayed in touch with two top tens as did Will Hancock in Thunderstruck.
The breeze began to build throughout the week with four races scheduled for day three and four. Will Hancock with his Fishers Green crew put together eight top ten finishes in the run-in including a second, a fourth and fifth and Kyla and Emily continued their good form including three more top tens with a fifth in the final race.
At the end, Will took ninth, Kyla and Emily eleventh (and third in Silver Fleet) and Bruce and Alex finished fourteenth just above Oscar and Alex Star in fifteenth with two race wins (the first and last race). With Bruce and Alex, Kyla and Emily and Oscar and Alex all competing next year, SCSC should all be challenging for world team places in the Spring. Mention should also go to Rosie Hancock and Isla McCormick (25th), Benji Russell and George Dearsley (29th), and Henry Yates and Antoni Durlak (32nd) who all performed well at their first Nationals in the main fleet.
In the Regatta fleet, the leader board was dominated by the SCSC pairings of Arthur Jenkins and Harriet Dearsley in Hi Velocity and Isla Bromhead and Polly Kornicka in North Star. With only two points in it at the end, Arthur and Harriet, with six wins and five seconds, were very worthy winners with Isla and Polly second with 4 wins and five seconds. Superb performances from them both.
