King Alfred District Scout Group Canoe Capsize Training
18th June, 17:00 - 21:00
- King Alfred District Scout Group wish to use our Lake for capsize training, specifically to teach scouts how to recover from a capsize I.e. to swim 5m with boat and paddle to nearest shore, empty boat and climb back in. The proposal covered:
- When using the lake, King Alfred District Scout Group would have two qualified instructors on the water and a maximum of 10 scouts in 5 open Canadian canoes. Typically there are two additional Scout leaders giving general assistance.
- This would take about 2 x 2 hour sessions for the 4 groups King Alfred District Scouts teach each summer.
- The risk assessments, method statements and insurance will be provided by King Alfred District Scout Group.
- King Alfred District Scouts wish to use the lake Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 5pm and 9pm June and July 2026.
- Practically, King Alfred District Scouts are unlikely to be journeying more than 50m from the bank and would be able to keep clear of other activities on the lake.
