Introduction

2019 saw the relaunch of Youth Sailing at South Cerney. With the success of Cadets we will see an increasing number of youngsters growing out of Cadets over the next few years and wish to establish a progression path to keep them sailing at the club and competing elsewhere if they wish.

We define Youth Sailors as anyone who is between 15 and 23; youths are encouraged to remain in Cadets until they are 17 however those who choose a different pathway are welcome to the Youth Fleet as this provides the perfect progression path to improve their sailing. New or experienced sailors in both single or double handers are welcome. The attraction for Youth Sailors is that they can compete against the adult club racers if they wish.

We currently run a monthly Youth training session with a qualified DI or SI on Sunday afternoons after racing, you are encouraged to race in the morning, or be rigged and ready to go by 1pm if you are coming along for the training only. Please see regular updates on the SCSC newsletter or online youth forum for upcoming training dates and other youth news.

We will encourage our sailors to participate in the Saturday afternoon club racing where on the water coaching is permitted. Youth sailors can also take part in the Sunday club racing, Chilli Dogs, Hot Dogs etc but no coaching is allowed.
