Cadet Class

The South Cerney Sailing Club supported Junior Class is the International Cadet Class dinghy. The dinghy, designed for children by Group Captain Haylock, was first built in 1947 by Jack Holt and is still thriving as an RYA Junior recognised pathway craft.

Our aim is to encourage young people to enjoy sailing, become confident, participate in racing and above all have fun!

Cadets, as we are known, meet on Saturdays at 11.00 am from March through to October for sail training sessions where trainers provide coaching for our young people. The 8 – 17 year-olds sail a mix of privately owned boats and Club owned boats that are made available for sail training and racing. Sailing continues in to the winter months, although in a different format, with our 360 Team.

We provide training for a mixed ability of junior sailor from complete beginners to RYA National squad level. The majority of coaches come from volunteer parents and club members. We are also very well supported by the RYA Clubs Coaches system because South Cerney Sailing Club is a RYA Youth Championship Club.

A full Club Junior-racing program has been planned for 2010 with a race every Saturday afternoon, Sunday Club Racing, Cadet Cup/Trophy races and series plus a Cadet Class Open.

In addition to Club Racing the United Kingdom National Cadet Class Association (UKNCCA) plan Racing and Training events at inland venues as well as costal locations where approximately 100 Cadet Boats take part. More information on the UKNCCA can be found at:
